Information and Application for Appeal Funding:

Applications for Appeal Funding will still be accepted by

Friday 19 February 2010

This information is for those that have suffered loss to property and personal affects as a result of the Walla Walla Gerogery Bushfire

As you would be aware the SS & A Club and WAW Credit Union commenced a public appeal on Friday 18 December 2009. Funds raised through the public appeal will be administered by an Independent Appeal Committee comprising the Mayor, a Welfare worker, Solicitor and a Chartered Accountant.

In addition, Council at an Extraordinary meeting held on Wednesday 6 January 2010 established a Local Recovery Fund with an initial contribution of $200,000 to assist landowners to the replace boundary fencing, remove debris and removal of dangerous trees on private property that present a threat to homes, outbuildings and property entrances.

Council has appointed Cr Bill McDonald as volunteer Fencing Coordinator who will receive administrative support from Council staff to commence implementation of the Program.

A public meeting will be held on Wednesday 13 January 2010 at the Gerogery Hall commencing at 7 pm to provide information on the Local Recovery Fund and answer other questions that residents may have.

Please click here to access an Appeal Application Form and Information that will assist in assessing your eligibility for funds from the public fundraising appeal and the Local Recovery Fund established by Council.

If you have suffered loss to property or personal affects please complete the form and return it to Greater Hume Shire Council, P.O. Box 99, Holbrook, NSW 2644 by Friday 5 February 2010.

To fast track some of the priority works Council staff may also contact landowners personally so that the scope of works and likely financial impact can be quickly established.

Council is committed to working with affected landowners to assist in the recovery effort.

Southern Riverina Assistance Guide:

Drought Support Workers provide support for families during drought and other emergencies, such as floods, fires and storms. This often involves supplying information on what support and assistance is available and who may be eligible, along with help in filling out the multitude of forms. Drought Support Workers can also provide personal support to people who just want to talk. This can involve talking to farmers and their families on the phone, visiting on their farms or talking to small groups of neighbours.
