What's On

School Holiday Activities

Craft sessions are organised for children from 6 to 12 years of age during school holidays. Bookings are essential. Some activities will incur a charge.

Book Nooks

We have established Book Nooks within a number of local businesses.

Our goals are;

  • To add another dimension to the ways we connect children and adults to books.
  • To add another way of promoting our libraries and being creative in the way we connect people to information, knowledge, reading for pleasure and a love of reading.

Each month we deliver approximately 10 picture books and 10 adult ‘coffee table’ nonfiction books to the businesses we have partnered with. A basket, kept in an area where customers are seated, is filled with these books and refreshed with new books each month.

Seniors week

We run seniors’ week events each year. NSW Seniors Week is dedicated to looking after our senior citizens all around Australia! We’re making sure that community events are more inclusive and diverse enough to include activities for not just young sportsters but also older enthusiastic participants!

Get Online week

We run workshops during Get Online Week to help to build confidence and expertise with using online resources.

Simultaneous Storytime

We celebrate National Simultaneous Storytime each year. It is an Australia-wide group reading and literacy event, where schools, libraries and other institutions gather school-age children together to read the same chosen picture book at the same time.

Library Lovers Day

We celebrate this event each year leading up to Valentine’s Day, usually with a competition involving something we love about our library books.

Christmas Food Appeal

Each year, Christmas hampers and gifts are made up from the generous donations of our library members. All donated food items are non-perishable and in-date, while gifts, suitable for children up to the age of ten, are donated unwrapped.

Christmas Craft Program

We have a Christmas craft corner during the month of December, where children can call in at whatever time they like to make fabulous Christmas creations.

Home and Community Delivery Services

The Home Library Service is a free home delivery service for residents of the Greater Hume Council who are unable to visit one of the Greater Hume Libraries in person, by reason of age, sickness or other incapacity.

Please contact the library to request a Home Library Service application package to be posted to you. Staff will conduct a telephone interview to introduce you to the service. Books and other library materials will be selected according to your preferences, and delivered to your home on a fortnightly or monthly basis.

Our Home Library Service members can borrow items from any of the library's lending collections including large print books, regular print books, audio-visual material (including audiobooks, CDs and DVDs) magazines, and items from the community languages collections.
