Discontinuation of Mobile Library Service From 1 July 2024

Published on 01 March 2024

In November 2021, a recommendation was endorsed by Greater Hume Council, to withdraw from the Riverina Regional Library Mobile Library Service effective from 1 July 2024.

The decision stemmed from the withdrawal of the Wagga Wagga City Council from the Riverina Regional Library in July 2022, which prompted a major review of RRL Operations. The impact of this decision seen the mobile service no longer viable due to the increased contribution payable by Greater Hume Council along with a decline in use of the service.

As endorsed by Council at the February Council Meeting, Greater Hume Councils priority is to work with the Mobile Library users to determine alternative arrangements for accessing library services. This will involve consultation and communication with impacted users commencing March 2024. A communications programme will also commence in March, addressing the changes in services that will begin to occur. This communications programme will be rolled out via Councils social media and website, the Mobile Library social platforms and community newsletters.

This transition programme includes a 12 month replacement service for the 2024/25 year. Greater Hume Council will provide a monthly service to the impacted towns with the aim of transitioning services to online borrowing and reading and/or using our four library’s based in Jindera, Holbrook, Henty and Culcairn.

Greater Hume Council continues to support the static libraries in Culcairn, Henty, Holbrook and Jindera through the provision of a variety of services and through the continual refurbishment of the Libraries, most recently including the Holbrook and Henty Libraries, to ensure that the service provided meets the needs of the Greater Hume Community.
