Opening Greater Hume Children Services Albury Hub

Published on 29 March 2023

Greater Hume Children Services (GHCS) Family Day Care new Albury Hub will be officially opened on Thursday, 30 March 2023 at 1132 Burrows Road, Lavington by Greater Hume Council, Mayor, Cr Tony Quinn.

GHCS has been providing Family Day Care for nearly 30 years, there are 60 educators across Benalla, Corowa, Howlong, Jindera, Burrumbuttock, Albury and Wodonga providing Family Day Care to 722 children from 503 families.

Cr Quinn said, “GHCS staff and educators provide excellent services to our families and their children, in 2022 the NSW Department of Education rated the service as Exceeding the National Quality Standards and our Educator, Nanda Jamble was awarded the NSW Regional Educator of the Year. This new hub will allow our services to grow, build stronger community relationships whilst providing the services required to more families across the Greater Hume, Albury, Wodonga and North East Victoria region.”

The new GHCS Albury Hub opened its doors on 21 November 2022, following a decision by Albury City Council to close their Family Day Care service at these premises. It was then that David Smith, Director Corporate and Community Services, Greater Hume Council saw the potential to expand the service and negotiated a lease arrangement on the purpose built building with Albury City Council.

Felicity O’Rourke, GHCS Business Development Manager advised, “whilst the GHCS Albury Hub provides the opportunity for us to grow our capacity we will also be able to offer training to a larger sector of Family Day Care Educators. The Hub will also showcase our nature based, child focused philosophy to a wider section of families in great need for child care. Families are choosing care that provides smaller groups and closer connections in a family style environment. GHCS are perfectly placed to provide more child care places for a growing regional demand.”

Cr Quinn also said, “Council would like to thank David Smith, the staff and educators at GHCS who have worked tirelessly to make the relocation happen whilst putting our families first to develop this purpose built hub.”

To celebrate the official opening GHCS will also be opening the doors to the community on Saturday, 1 April 2023 (10am - 12pm) offering a chance for our families and children and the wider community to come and see our beautiful space and see what Family Day Care can offer. It will also be an opportunity for anyone interested in becoming a Family Day Care Educator to speak with our friendly and dedicated staff.
