David’s historical autobiography, Stargazer, is of local interest and highlights the value of family, ingenuity, bravado, old-fashioned common sense, colourful characters and unfailing good humour. From rural towns in Victoria and New South Wales, to the mountain life in Queensland, his constant has been faithful canine companions, perseverance and a joy for living. In the 1940's, his father showed movies at Wodonga, Chiltern, and all the area army camps.
After the war the family shifted to Cobram, where David’s dad built his Melba Theatre, while also screening films at Numurkah, Tocumwal and Finley. In 1961, David oversaw the erection of the Lakeside drive-in theatre at Yarrawonga, and ten years later oversaw the construction of the Stargazer drive-in theatre at Albury. Ten years later, after selling to Village Theatres, he created a thoroughbred horse stud at Tabletop.
Around the turn of the century, a near-death experience saw his life change, and that's when he became an author.
His latest novel, set along the Murray River in the 50's and 60's, also contains historical fact that will be of interest to those who attend.
