Mayoral Easter Message

Published on 17 April 2025

As we head into Easter, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the challenges many in our region have been facing.

With drier than normal weather and the constant task of feeding stock, it hasn’t been an easy season for many of our farming families. These times test out resilience – but they also show the strength, spirit and solidarity that make our community what it is.

Easter is a time to reflect, reconnect and take a breather where we can. Whether you’re gathering with family, catching up with friends or neighbours or simply enjoying a cuppa on the verandah, I hope this long weekend brings some peace and a bit of well-earned rest.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed to our recent community consultation activities. Your voices and insights shaped the draft 10-Year Greater Hume Strategic Plan. This plan is not just a roadmap – it is a commitment to ensuring that Greater Hume remains a thriving, connected and livable region for generations to come.

It is clear that our people value the strong sense of belonging, rural charm, and natural beauty that define the region. Greater Hume is a wonderful place to live, with its welcoming communities, rich agricultural history and growing local economy, However, we also recognize the challenges we must address – the need to improve infrastructure, better access to essential services, stronger economic opportunities and fairer distribution of resources across Greater Hume.

Importantly, this plan recognises that each of our communities are unique, with its own strengths and aspirations. Whether it’s supporting small business, enhancing infrastructure, improving connectivity, growing tourism or advocating for better services, this plan ensures that every community has a voice and a role in shaping our future.

A reminder that the opportunity to provide feedback on Council’s draft Community Strategic Plan 2025-2035 remains open until Saturday, 19 April 2025. Click here to Have Your Say on the draft plan - Help Shape Greater Hume's Future!

I encourage all residents to stay engaged, continue sharing your ideas and work with us to build a strong and resilient future. Together, we will make Greater Hume a place where families flourish, businesses thrive, and communities remain connected and proud.

On behalf of Council, I would like to wish you a safe and joyful Easter.

Warm regards,

Lea Parker, Mayor
